2011 Chinootka Lodge Summary and 2012 Forecast

The 2011 fishing season is now behind us and once again we would like to thank our returning customers for their support and also many thanks to the new customers who joined us for the first time. I’m sure everyone went home happy and that the fishing amazing everyone as usual.
The fishing for 2011 was outstanding with 3 and 4 year old Chinook being in great abundance. This should be an indication of strong runs of 4 and 5 yr old fish for 2012. The five year old Chinooks were not plentiful in 2011 coastwide but should return to more normal numbers this coming summer.
Coho were everywhere in 2011 and should be similar for 2012. Halibut and bottomfishing in general continues to be excellent. Anchoring up for the halibut has proven to be “the ticket” especially for the larger “butts” for those who really choose to fight a big one. We tend to encourage our customers to release the larger brood stock halibut in favor of the 60 lbs and under chickens.

We are lucky to have our outstanding lodge staff of Jesse, Crystal and Sarah back for another season. Our guide staff of David, Mike, Trevor, Russ and Mark will once again be on board to show you the best in professionally guided fishing. All are registered, ticketed guides with many years experience. Their boats and equipment compliment their expertise. We will be busy this spring with Trevor spearheading a total reno and refit of our lodge kitchen. Updating will help our lodge staff be more proficient in meal making and taking care of our customers. We try every year to make improvements that will make everyone’s stay at the lodge more enjoyable.
What should we expect for 2012? More of the same great fishing that Nootka Sound and Chinootka Lodge are known for. We are expecting a busy season, so give us a call and jump on board. We look forward to seeing you all this summer at Chinootka Lodge.
