Trophy Chinook (King) salmon and Coho (Silver) salmon are abundant and Esperanza and Nootka Sound have many river systems that salmon return to on their migration route. The Kunuma Hatchery contributes a large number of fish to our success ratio.
Campbell River fishing is world famous and the area has long been known for all species of salmon. Campbell River is famous for the number of magnificent Tyee Salmon (Chinook salmon over 30 lbs) caught in the venerable Tyee pools following strict traditional guidelines.
Nootka Sound is Known For Sizable Salmon!
In Nootka Sound and Esperanza Inlet the Chinook (Kings) Salmon are in the 20 to 45 pound range, with some topping out at 50 pounds and up! Coho (Silvers) Salmon are in the 8 to 23 pound range. The end of August last year saw the Coho Salmon averaging 16 to a whopping 24 pounds!Both of these fantastic fish can and will give the best of anglers a fearsome challenge, especially when sport fishing using top-of-the-line light tackle and saltwater fishing in shallow water along the kelp beds in 20 to 70 feet of water!
Chinooks (Kings) and Coho (Silvers) salmon in the Nootka Sound area are usually on their migration route to their home rivers. Some make their way down the west coast of Vancouver Island to the vast number of river systems flowing into the Pacific Ocean. Many of the Chinook (Kings) are on their way down to rivers in Washington, Oregon and Northern California.
The incredible numbers of Chinook (Kings) and Coho (Silvers) salmon traveling by our prime location provide our clients with outstanding fishing opportunities for these hard fighting salmon. The waters we fish for Salmon also produce many species of bottom fish such as, Halibut, Ling Cod, Snapper (Yellow eye) and many different rockfish, all available while fishing for Salmon.
